Klee + Bridechamber Front Panel parts

Posted in creative practice, culture, gear with tags , , on 11/01/2011 by sync24

apart from finishing the boards, i realise it has been a good year since i made any real progress with building the Klee sequencer… that’s not good. though i suppose in the meantime i made a few other things (WSG, Shufflebox, APC, Dronelab, Shruthi-1). anyway, i have made a few posts here [e-m about 3/4 way down:] and here [muffs] and got a pretty decent parts list together now. i did also email the bridechamber chaps as it was pointed out they make a parts kit for their front panel, but the link is now dead and they haven’t got back to me, so i guess that it’s not something they are supplying anymore.
it was a bit of a saga getting the parts list together, but with the great help of members of the two different forums i have a better understanding of a few things and have an almost complete list. i will post my completed list once it’s 100% done, here and on the two forums, just for a final check through or any last suggestions.

klee update

Posted in creative practice, gear with tags , , on 15/10/2010 by sync24

managed to get round to soldering some more stuff onto the two klee boards this eve.
well, a new thing arrived through the post the other day, so i thought i should try and make some progress with one thing before starting on another…
so i have got most parts on that need to go on. there’s some variable stuff that will happen, so i’ll need to explore that properly when the time comes (range control stuff that i’m not 100% on).
in the meantime, i will get the following two links read and they should help me with understanding building it a bit more. (linked to this chap before, looks like he’s finished now though!!!)

some klee links for future ref

better get these checked through at some point…

klee, some help and some parts…

Posted in gear with tags on 10/01/2010 by sync24

i’ve emailed two klee builders and popped a new thread on the electro-music forum asking for a bit of help with building the klee.
no response to the forum post as yet, but bruce ( got back to my email and showed me a bbs where he’d posted info about his build here:
i have had a quick look through it and it looks really helpful!
so cheers Bruce!!!
today i have been trying to find parts i need to buy for the klee and the dronelab.
part numbers for and digikey are supplied via so i have been compiling a couple of orders most of today (!!!).
it’s going to be expensive…

Klee Sequencer build begins…

Posted in gear with tags on 08/01/2010 by sync24

so, as ç´¬´∫®å†¥ ∫^© ∫®ø†˙´® has started again, i thought it was high time i got on with building my Klee sequencer…
so i read through the ‘know your klee’ doc again and then the ‘issue 6 build doc’ both from here:
and got all the bits out…
i’ve bought myself the two boards (analogue and digital) from, plus the parts kit from this thread:
i also bought a fantastic Bridechamber front panel from here:

so it will look something like the one in the following link:

the kit of parts from electro-music has saved me a fair bit of grief, as has the front panel. however, there’s plenty i don’t understand and i’m running aground now, so thats why it’s time for me to get this blog up to date a bit…

here’s some pics of the Digital board with the connectors, IC sockets and most of the resistors installed:

the resistors not installed are the other half of what’s needed to set the klee up to pump out 5v, it seems i’m 8 resistors missing from the parts kit…
no problem.

i have also populated the analog board up to about the same point, here’s a pic:

i don’t want to start putting in the capacitors and diodes, really, until i get the other resistors sorted ok.

it’s the options i’m a little stuck with….
as i have the Bridechamber panel some options have been considered or put into practice with the holes for knobs and switches, and that’s what i don’t fully understand…
so i have posted a message here:
and also emailed a couple of people asking for help.

so, at the moment, i need:
some help with the options,
some resistors,
all the knobs, switches, sockets, leds and led holders,
and a power supply…
oh, and a box to put it all in.

Klee front panel

my front panel from Bridechamber has arrived,
so i’ve been looking online for some more stuff about the build and found this blog:

After having looked for quite a while at different sequencer tools and having owned a couple of the older Roland analog sequencers, I do feel a need for some kind of solid (read Hardware!) sequencer again…
I used to own both a Roland CSQ-100 and CSQ-600, they were big (the 600 was almost the same size as the 808), but took in and played back a sequence of notes you keyed in from a synth. They could play to their own tempo or a clock tempo from a drum machine (a ‘hit’ on every 16 steps throughout a bar would trigger a note in the seq). I really like the way the older sequencers work where you have at least a pitch knob for each step, Numerology does this but it’s software (and I do have a copy of it, as mentioned else where I think…). In the past I have had this set up controlling the SH101 and SH09, with the Kenton Control Freak changing CV info over MIDI via the MPU101, with Numerology, but obviously the annoying part of this set-up is the MIDI element (I need to change MIDI channel on the Control Freak for different synths) and the virtual control, not enough REAL knobs to turn etc. I will be setting this arrangement up again as I recently installed the update on my MacBook and got it working again quite quickly. It will also run with software samplers and the various other blocks you can plug in to Numerology work nicley (from what I have seen from quick dabbles with it).

So, as some kind of solution (and I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place with this – money & non-existant hardware Vs MIDI control), and as an extension of this post, I have been researching different bits of hardware that I could try and buy…
Technosaurus Cyclodon is the nicest little one, I haven’t seen any for sale on ebay and haven’t looked elsewhere yet.
The post above has another one in one of the YouTube videos and I have just found out about yet another one, The Model 2 Klee Sequencer, here’s another page about it…
Anyway, without going on too much about it right now, I think (certainly in light of recent reading – Analog Days, Electronic Sound etc.) I should be looking at having a stab at making some kind of sequencer, at least from some kind of kit… I would like to make one of the Gakkens from this previous post, and hope that this will inspire some soldering.

Here’s the YouTube video I found the Klee in:

…and I think this website could be invaluabel:

oh dear, ‘just been reading through a couple of pages on the forum etc at the above site and the Klee sequencer will be available soon as a kit for $135 including postage…
I need to ask a few questions and have a think…!
here it is to buy:
and here’s the forum about it:

Intro to the Klee Seq:

and then…

what are the other synths being controlled…?
they’re from here:
and it looks like there’s plenty of projects there to play with, here’s stage one!!!
and here’s a video:
damn, this is never ending…!

this chap has some good stuff and good links too:
